Things they didn’t tell me as a new grad nurse!

Here’s a couple things that no one told me when I was leaving nursing school!

1) DON’T tell anyone when you’re taking your boards!

This very well may just be a nursing superstition (you know the ones lol) but it also gives you extra unnecessary stress! Tell the important people in your life, the people beyond that? ‘Pray for me this week, I have something big coming up!’ That way if you run into an issue, you don’t have a million people asking if you passed! Share that good news after you KNOW! 🩵

2) Readjusting to having time with family and friends and YOURSELF! Totally normal! It feels weird to have free time after studying your ass off for months on end! Don’t feel guilty, you earned this moment of peace!

3) You’re going to miss your nursing school besties! After you’ve been with these people day in day out for so long, it’s normal to feel like somethings missing in your life! Make sure you keep in touch if that’s what your heart is telling you to do! My school bestie and I are working to do lunch together once a month so we keep in contact, but we also still text each other almost every day!

4) It’s okay not to have a job lined up when you graduate! Some people need more time to find their perfect fit, some people (me,guilty!) are a glutton for punishment and jump right back into school! That’s okay! Everyone’s path is different and what works for one person might not be what’s best for the other!

Just some random thoughts!

Nurses, what was the best thing that you learned post graduation?

Student nurses, what’s something that you’re learning about?

... Read moreAs a new graduate nurse, the transition from academic life to professional practice can bring numerous challenges. It's common to experience a mixture of excitement and apprehension. One thing to remember is that adjusting to family time and self-care is normal. After dedicating years to studying, you might find it difficult to embrace newfound free time. As shared, staying connected with nursing school friends is essential; they understand your journey best. Additionally, don't rush into job opportunities. It's alright to seek the right fit for you, allowing yourself the necessary time to explore options that resonate with your career goals. Cultivating patience during this phase can lead to rewarding outcomes. Embrace your unique path and find comfort in knowing that every new grad shares similar feelings and experiences.
