It’s truly a blast from the past that deserves another watch. I still remember seeing the movie poster back in the day – Justine Bateman with that fierce look, and Julia Roberts' iconic curly hair. It immediately captured the rebellious spirit of the late 80s. The film follows Jennie Lee (Justine Bateman), the lead singer of an all-girl rock band named 'Mystery,' as they try to land a summer gig at a ritzy beachfront hotel. Of course, things don't go as smoothly as planned, leading to all sorts of drama, romance, and some seriously catchy tunes. What struck me most on this rewatch was seeing these now-legendary actors in their earlier roles. Julia Roberts, playing Daryle, the band's bassist, already showed glimpses of the charismatic star she would become. Her energy was infectious, even in a supporting role. And Justine Bateman? She utterly embodied the angst and ambition of a young musician trying to make it big. Her portrayal of Jennie Lee felt so authentic, a real voice for a generation chasing dreams.
