Natural Things I Do When Allergy Season Hits

Instead of just powering through itchy eyes and endless sneezing, I support my body naturally when allergy season rolls around. These simple things really help me feel better:

• Drink nettle leaf tea (natural antihistamine and inflammation support)

• Rinse my sinuses with a saline spray or neti pot to clear out allergens

• Take local raw honey daily to build natural resistance

• Diffuse eucalyptus or peppermint oil to help open airways

• Keep windows closed on high pollen days

• Change my clothes and shower after coming inside to wash off pollen

• Use a HEPA filter in my bedroom for cleaner air

• Support my immune system with vitamin C, quercetin, and zinc

• Stay hydrated to thin mucus and keep sinuses calm

It’s about creating a calm, allergen-friendly space inside and out!

... Read moreAllergy season can really be a drag, turning beautiful spring days into a symphony of sneezes and itchy eyes. I used to just power through, but over time, I’ve discovered some amazing natural strategies that really make a difference for me. It’s not about finding a magic cure, but consistently supporting my body to cope with those pesky allergens. Here are some more insights into how I manage: Tackling Pollen Exposure Head-On: Beyond just keeping windows closed, I've learned to be really proactive about pollen and dust mites. For example, showering immediately after coming inside, especially after a long walk or gardening, is a game-changer. Pollen literally sticks to your hair and skin, and a quick rinse washes it all away before it can trigger symptoms indoors. I also make sure to change my clothes right away – those fibers are like little pollen magnets! I toss my outdoor clothes straight into the laundry basket to avoid spreading allergens around my home. Another little trick? If you must drive with allergies, keep your car windows up and use the AC on recirculate mode to prevent outside air (and pollen) from getting in. Boosting Your Body's Natural Defenses: I’m a big believer in supporting my body from the inside out. Nettle leaf tea, made from dried nettle leaf, has become a daily ritual for me. I steep a bag for about 5-10 minutes, and I truly feel it acts as a natural antihistamine, calming my system. It's gentle but effective. I also make sure my diet is rich in Vitamin C, often adding a slice of lemon to my water or tea, and I take quercetin and zinc supplements. Quercetin is fantastic because it helps stabilize mast cells, which are responsible for releasing histamine – the culprit behind many allergy symptoms. These are key for me when I’m trying to stop allergies immediately naturally. Harnessing Local Goodness & Aromatherapy: I've heard a lot about local raw honey acting as a natural remedy for allergies, and I've tried to incorporate it into my routine. The idea is that by consuming small amounts of local pollen via the honey, you might build up a tolerance. I look for honey from local farmers' markets and enjoy it with a dipper in my tea or on toast. It's a sweet way to potentially boost my resistance! For opening airways, I can't recommend essential oil bottles enough. Diffusing eucalyptus or peppermint oil in my bedroom before bed, or even a drop on a tissue for a quick sniff, helps me breathe easier and clear my sinuses, especially during those high pollen count days. Just be mindful of pets and small children when diffusing. Creating an Allergen-Friendly Home Sanctuary: My bedroom is my sanctuary, and I try to keep it as allergen-free as possible. A HEPA filter is non-negotiable for me – it captures tiny particles like pollen and dust mites, making the air noticeably cleaner. I also wash my bedding in hot water weekly and vacuum frequently with a HEPA-filtered vacuum. By combining these natural adjustments and remedies, I've found a routine that genuinely helps me manage allergy season better. It’s all about consistency and finding what works best for your body.
