... Read moreAs someone who's always on the lookout for convenient yet tasty meal solutions, I recently dug deep into the science behind frozen prata and was surprised by how much goes into its preparation — especially the choice of fats. The margarine used isn't just any fat; it’s highly engineered to have "plasticity," meaning it can spread and hold shape perfectly through rolling, folding, freezing, and frying. This creates those flaky layers we love but also involves fats that are often more processed than natural equivalents. What caught my attention is that these margarines blend vegetable oils with emulsifiers and sometimes chemically modified fats to ensure texture and shelf life, which can mean more refined oils and less nutritional simplicity. While frozen prata remains a convenient option, this processing highlights the importance of reading ingredient labels carefully. Ingredients like "margarine," "vegetable fat," or "hydrogenated fats" often indicate the presence of these plastic, industrially formulated fats. Personally, I balance my intake by enjoying frozen prata occasionally and supplementing it with homemade dishes using natural butter or ghee. This helps me avoid excessive consumption of these hidden processed fats, which may not offer the best nutritional profile. It’s also helpful to compare brands — some manufacturers use better oil blends, aiming for a closer resemblance to natural fats. Understanding the "plasticity test" concept gave me insight into why frozen prata can stay soft enough during preparation yet remain firm in storage. However, the trade-off is transparency about what fats we're actually consuming. From my experience, awareness is key. This knowledge has shifted my approach from mindless convenience to a more informed, balanced choice — still enjoying the food I love but with a clearer picture of what’s inside it.

Weekday Workstation: POUT ROOFTOP CAFE
Enjoyed a cup of latte ($5.90) while working on my laptop. The counterseat was great with the view. Went at 8.30am and it was nice and quiet. But the crowd started filling in quickly after 9.30am. So advice, come before that if you want a good seat. Will come back to try the Basque Cheesecake!
