DON'T SHRINK YOUR JOY. You deserve to be seen💕
DON'T SHRINK YOUR JOY. You deserve to be seen, truly seen.
My work is to advocate for mental health for all children, because every young mind deserves to thrive. But I lead this mission by remembering one child specifically: the young Black girl inside me.
She was screaming for someone to pay attention—to her artsy, fun way, to her dreams, to the pressure she felt. But nobody did. That silence leaves a mark.
I see that same pressure on the brilliant young Black girls I mentor now. The constant, draining choice: Be authentic and risk being shut down, or fit an image that doesn't fit you? This struggle to mute your creative spirit is a mental health issue, and it's real.
My mission is to give a voice to the voiceless—the child you were, and the powerful woman you are becoming. Your unique, creative spirit is your superpower. We are here to guard it.
➡️ If you are a grown woman who felt this way, tell me how you are reclaiming your joy now. 👇

The phrase "SOMEONE PLEASE LISTEN" powerfully echoes the silent plea many young Black girls experience as they navigate a world that often overlooks their unique voices and talents. This resonates deeply within the context of mental health, reflecting the critical need for attention and support to nurture their wellbeing. Mental health challenges among youth, particularly among marginalized communities, are intensified by cultural pressures to conform and suppress authentic self-expression. Young Black girls frequently face a difficult crossroads: to be themselves or to adopt a persona that fits societal expectations. This constant tension can lead to emotional strain, anxiety, and depression, underscoring why advocacy and visibility are vital. Such mental health advocacy goes beyond awareness; it includes mentoring, creating safe spaces, and promoting cultural pride that affirms identity and creative expression as sources of strength. Reclaiming joy involves recognizing the scars left by being unseen and unheard in childhood. It means listening sincerely to one’s inner child—the "voiceless" part yearning to express arts, dreams, and individuality without fear. Sharing stories, seeking community support, and engaging in healing journeys empower women to reconnect with their true selves and unlock their potential. Creative cultures that celebrate Black Girl Magic and youth mental health provide critical platforms to affirm worth and inspire resilience. If you’ve ever felt your joy shrinking under pressure, you are not alone. Participating in conversations, advocating for mental health resources, or simply accepting and nurturing your unique creative spirit helps guard against the invisibility that damages mental wellness. The collective mission is to ensure every young mind, especially those burdened with societal expectations, thrives in an environment that sees, hears, and values their authentic joy and creativity. Listening truly transforms mental health from a silent struggle into a journey of empowerment and healing.
