【Fuse Bead】｜Jellycat Yummy Bunny

Oh my gosh, you guys, if you're as obsessed with Jellycat as I am, you’re going to LOVE this! I recently decided to take my love for these adorable plushies to the next level by making a fuse bead version of the famous Yummy Bunny. Who knew you could capture all that charm in pixel art? It was such a fun and rewarding little project, and honestly, if I can do it, so can you! You know that feeling when you see a super cute Jellycat and just want to hug it? Well, imagine making a mini, lasting version to keep on your desk or give to a friend. That's exactly what my little pink bunny fuse bead creation is all about! First off, gather your supplies: a good selection of fuse beads (perler beads or Hama beads work great!), a pegboard (square or round depending on your design), ironing paper, and a household iron. For a bunny, especially a pink bunny like mine, you'll definitely want shades of pink, white for the ears and tail, and a tiny bit of black for the eyes and nose. Finding a bunny perler bead pattern or even a general pixel art jellycat pattern can be a great starting point. Sometimes I just look at a picture of the plushie and try to 'pixelate' it in my head onto the pegboard. It’s a fun challenge! Laying out the beads can be really meditative. Just make sure you're working on a flat, stable surface so your masterpiece doesn't get knocked over. Once your design is complete – my pink bunny design looked so adorable even before ironing! – it's time for the magic. Place your ironing paper over the beads, and using a medium-hot iron with no steam, gently move it in small circles. The key is to melt the beads just enough for them to fuse together, but not so much that they flatten completely. I usually iron one side until it's fused, then carefully flip it over (with the paper still attached, or by placing another sheet of paper on top) and iron the other side a little. This makes the finished piece much stronger. Don't forget to place something heavy on top of it while it cools to prevent warping! I love how my pixelated design turned out – it has that classic retro charm but with a modern Jellycat twist. You could even adapt this idea for other Jellycat characters!
