Okay, seriously, who else initially underestimated Gobuta from Tensura? When I first started watching 'That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime,' I was all about Rimuru, Shion, Benimaru, and even the formidable Diablo. But as the story unfolded, I found myself increasingly charmed by the most unlikely hero – Gobuta himself. He's often in the background, making jokes or looking a bit out of his depth, but trust me, there's so much more to this goblin than meets the eye! For those who might need a refresher, Gobuta is one of the original goblins Rimuru encounters and names. From humble beginnings, he quickly becomes a significant figure, especially as the leader of the Goblin Riders, later evolving into the Tempest Wolf Riders. His bond with his direwolf mount, Ranga, is absolutely iconic! It's not just a master-pet relationship; it's a true partnership that evolves beautifully throughout the series. I love how he starts as a somewhat timid, goofy character and gradually grows, always maintaining his unique charm. Now, let's talk about his combat prowess. You might think, 'He's just a goblin, how strong can he be?' But Gobuta consistently defies expectations. He's got a surprisingly high aptitude for fighting, mastering a unique style that blends his innate goblin strength with Ranga's incredible speed and power. His unique skill, 'Unite,' allowing him to fuse with Ranga, is a game-changer! It turns him into a beast on the battlefield, making him a truly formidable opponent. I remember being genuinely surprised during some of the major battles when Gobuta stepped up and showed his incredible capabilities. It's a testament to his potential under Rimuru's guidance, proving that even the 'weakest' can become strong. What truly makes Gobuta special, in my opinion, is his personality. He's the ultimate comedic relief, always ready with a witty remark or a clumsy blunder. But beneath that lighthearted exterior lies a deep sense of loyalty and a surprising amount of wisdom. He’s incredibly dedicated to Rimuru and his friends, always ready to put his life on the line. He might grumble, but he always follows through. I think he's underrated because he doesn't have the flashy powers of a demon lord or the devastating magic of the Kijin, but his consistency, reliability, and sheer heart make him an indispensable part of the Tempest Nation. He's the kind of character you can always count on for a laugh and, when it truly matters, a heroic moment. One of my absolute favorite Gobuta moments is during the fight against the Orc Disaster. His sheer determination and teamwork with Ranga were incredible. And honestly, any scene where he's interacting with Benimaru or Shion usually ends up being hilarious. He acts as a grounding force, a reminder that even in a world of god-tier beings, there’s still room for the humble, good-natured goblin who just wants to do his best. He embodies the spirit of growth and unexpected strength that's central to Tensura. He shows that loyalty, hard work, and a good sense of humor can take you far, even if you’re just a goblin named Gobuta. So, if you're like me and initially wrote off Gobuta, I urge you to take another look. He's a fantastic character whose journey is a heartwarming and often hilarious part of the Tensura universe. He’s proof that sometimes the most memorable characters are the ones who surprise you the most. What are your favorite Gobuta moments? Let me know!
