Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share an update on my microlocs journey. If you've been following along, you know how much I've wanted to get these, and I finally took the plunge! This post is all about my initial installation and what the first few weeks have been like, including my very first retwist. Getting microlocs installed is definitely a process, but it's so worth it. My stylist started by carefully sectioning my hair into tiny grids. This part is crucial for ensuring uniform locs and a neat overall look as they grow. The image from my session shows exactly what that initial sectioning looks like – it's fascinating to see the precision involved! Each tiny section then gets intricately braided or interlocked at the root to form the foundation of the microloc. It takes a lot of time and patience, but watching my hair transform was incredible. I opted for a smaller size, which gives a really delicate and versatile look, even for short micro locs. After the initial installation, the real journey begins! My hair felt a little different, as expected, but nothing uncomfortable. The key during this starter phase is to be gentle. I learned quickly that proper maintenance right from the start makes a huge difference. About a month later, it was time for my first microloc retwist. This is essential for keeping your locs neat and helping them mature properly. During a retwist, your new growth is carefully interlocked or twisted into the existing loc. It helps to consolidate the loc and keep it from unraveling. It’s also a great opportunity for your stylist to check on the health of your scalp and locs. I found that my retwist session was quicker than the initial installation, but still just as important for the long-term health and appearance of my microlocs. For anyone starting their own microlocs journey, I highly recommend investing in a few essential microloc tools. A good spray bottle for moisturizing, a satin bonnet or pillowcase to protect your hair at night, and maybe some light oil are staples. While you won't be doing your own interlocking, having the right products for daily care is vital. As for microlocs styles, even with starter short micro locs, there are so many options! I love experimenting with simple updos, half-up styles, or just letting them hang free. They’re incredibly versatile. My advice? Be patient with your hair. Microlocs are a commitment, but they offer so much freedom and beauty. It’s truly an amazing journey, and I can't wait to share more updates and microlocs styles as my hair continues to grow and mature!
