Racism in the medical field against Black Women

There is a disproportionate amount of Black Women who die during childbirth. The medical field is set up they don't treat Black Women's pain as they do others pain. They have this notion that Black Women aren't human. They're pain is either none existent they lying to get drugs or it isn't that serious. This is a sick system of white aggression/dominance we live within. The notion goes back to the idea that Black women can endure pain since Black Women did during slavery and when they were used as lab rats without anesthesia it is a preconditioned idea that many have in the medical field.

... Read moreRacism in healthcare is an urgent issue that affects many marginalized communities, especially Black women. Statistics reveal that Black women are three to four times more likely to experience maternal mortality than their white counterparts. This disparity stems from historical injustices and ongoing biases embedded within the healthcare system. The belief that Black women tolerate pain more than others has deep historical roots dating back to slavery and the exploitative practices of medical experimentation. Such misconceptions lead to dismissiveness regarding their pain and a lack of proper treatment. The implications are dire – countless Black women find themselves not only battling the challenges of childbirth but also fighting against the systemic racism that threatens their lives. Efforts to address these disparities must include comprehensive training on cultural competence for healthcare professionals, fostering an environment where every patient is treated with respect and dignity. Advocacy for policy changes in maternal health is essential, alongside community outreach programs aimed at educating and empowering Black women about their rights in the healthcare system. Through collective awareness and action, we can work towards dismantling the systemic barriers that continue to jeopardize the health of Black women during childbirth, ensuring that all women receive the care and respect they deserve.
