Big Bend National Park
This was National Park number 63/63 for me… I was off-roading around Texas and Oklahoma with a Jeep group that I am a part of. We had a couple of days off in between spots. Part of the group headed off to San Antonio… I headed off to Big Bend to check off my last National Park. I was bummed that the more intense off-roading trails were under water, and I wasn’t able to drive those… still, I was able to take the off-road trail to the Rio Grande. It was worth the drive and the short walk to touch the banks of the river. The river was too high to cross, but there were so many other places to drive to and walk to that the day was packed. Yeah to the park that was my final one…!

Having visited all 63 National Parks, I can confidently say that Big Bend National Park offers a uniquely rugged and rewarding experience, especially for off-road enthusiasts. While some trails may be inaccessible due to seasonal conditions like flooding, the park still boasts plenty of scenic drives and hiking opportunities that make it a must-see destination. During my visit, the off-road trail leading to the Rio Grande stood out as a memorable highlight. Despite the river being too high to cross, the short walk to the riverbank provided a peaceful moment to connect with nature’s raw beauty. For those who enjoy photography, Big Bend offers stunning landscapes of desert terrain, river vistas, and mountain backdrops that are truly breathtaking. If you’re planning a trip, it’s worth checking the park’s trail conditions ahead of time, especially in wetter seasons. Camping in Big Bend can enhance your experience, as the night skies here are incredibly clear, making it ideal for stargazing. Whether you’re driving through on rugged trails or exploring the many hikes available, Big Bend National Park delivers a sense of achievement and tranquility. Overall, this park felt like a perfect closing chapter for my National Parks journey in the United States. It combines adventure, natural beauty, and a touch of solitude, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the diverse landscapes of Texas and reflect on the vastness of the country’s protected wilderness.
