Glacier Bay National Park
On our first Alaska cruise we spent an entire day from sunrise to sunset cruising around Glacier Bay. A parks service ranger had come on board and there was a running commentary throughout the day from the Explorer’s Lounge in the front of the ship (Holland America’s Oosterdam.) When we got to the glaciers, the ship would park just off shore and spin in circles so that everyone could get a good look. My mother was able to sit on her balcony and experience it all. My husband and I were dressed warmly on the top deck enjoying the views and the split pea soup which is a HAL tradition. We saw seals, Dall sheep and a bear. Can’t wait to go back again in a few months (August).
