To All the Kits In the World

It's been so long since I've read Heartstopper that I realized after I took this photo that Kit is the first name of the actor that portrays Nick and that there is not in fact, a main character named Kit in the series. I'm almost finished with Piglet, and I read The Pairing last month; both books have a main character named Kit. Because I'm encountering more and more people in my life with the name Kit, I find it interesting that the name is popping up in the books I'm picking up too. Kit could be short for Christopher or Katherine and means "bearing Christ" or "pure", but whenever I hear it I think of baby foxes. I'm still looking for some significance to why I'm noticing the popularity of name, as if I'm willing it to have more meaning than a coincidence. Sometimes things just are, there is nothing beyond the surface, and I have a hard time accepting it sometimes. Do you know any more characters with the name Kit? #bookclub #currentlyreading

... Read moreThe name 'Kit' has gained a remarkable presence in contemporary literature and pop culture, with notable characters appearing in various stories. In Alice Oseman’s *Heartstopper*, the character Nick utilizes a physical connection to 'Kit' in a clever twist. Meanwhile, books such as *Piglet* by Lottie Hazell and *The Pairing* by Casey McQuiston introduce readers to additional characters sharing this unique name. This trend raises questions about the cultural significance of names in storytelling. Interestingly, 'Kit' can be a diminutive form of traditional names like Christopher or Katherine, symbolizing purity ('bearer of Christ') and innocence. This might explain the name's appeal in narratives that explore themes of growth and transformation. In literature, names often reflect the character's journey, and 'Kit' perfectly links to concepts of discovery and exploration in one’s identity.
