Last month our family loaded up the car in Florida and drove to Chicago for a family vacation that turned into a little sales trip too.
Anyone who knows us knows we can’t drive past a store that’s carrying my products without stopping. So with our two boys in the backseat we pulled into a few Walmarts and Food Lions just to see how our products looked on the shelf.
At one of the Food Lion stores we happened to meet the store director outside. We started talking and shared our family’s story. We told him how we built Goode Foods without investors and how the last year has been challenging with rising costs and tariffs pushing us to expand into seasonings alongside our vegetables.
We exchanged numbers and figured that would probably be the last time we’d talk.
Today he sent us this photo.
He said canned vegetables have been selling really well after all the online conversation around the recent produce recalls so he decided to build this display.
Moments like this remind us that this business has never just been about getting on shelves. It’s about the people behind those shelves.
There are thousands of products competing for the same space every single day. When someone believes in your family enough to go the extra mile it means more than they’ll probably ever know.

... Read moreTraveling from Florida to Chicago last month wasn’t just for a vacation—it turned into a meaningful journey for our family and our brand, Goode Foods. As a small, family-owned business, we’ve always prioritized personal connection and product quality over rapid expansion. Seeing our canned vegetables and seasonings on shelves in places like Food Lion is incredibly rewarding, especially during times when shoppers are increasingly cautious after recent produce recalls.
One thing that stood out during our trip was the support we received from store staff. Meeting the Food Lion store director and sharing our story reminded us that retail success is driven by genuine relationships, not just shelf space. The decision to build a special display for our Goode Corn and Green Beans, highlighted by affordable pricing, reflects a strong customer interest in trustworthy, affordable canned vegetables.
Canning vegetables is more than just preservation—it's about ensuring families have access to nutritious options even when fresh produce might be uncertain or costly. Over the last year, rising tariffs and supply chain challenges have pushed us to diversify, expanding into producing seasonings alongside vegetables. This helps us meet customer needs and maintain quality without increasing prices unnecessarily.
If you haven’t tried Goode Foods yet, look for our products at Food Lion and Walmart. We’re proud to offer delicious, wholesome canned vegetables that families can trust. Supporting small businesses means supporting real people behind every product, and our family looks forward to continuing this journey, knowing every purchase is a vote of confidence in our values and hard work.
