"Free Len" support illustration topic
The second season of the anime "Funeral Frieren" began broadcasting in January 2026. While attracting a lot of attention with the anime broadcast after about two years, as if to boost its momentum, "support illustrations" by many writers have been posted on the official X (@ FRIEREN _ PR) of this work.
This project features a gorgeous team of writers, including Gosho Aoyama of Detective Conan (Shogakukan) and Imigimuru, the illustrator of Losing Heroines Are Too Many! (Shogakukan). In this article, I would like to introduce some unique posts among the support illustrations.
Koji Kumeda, who worked on "Sayonara Despair Sensei" and "Kakushigoto" (both Kodansha), wrote a beautiful support illustration. Among the blooming blue moon grass, the beauty of the freelen standing alone is, of course, the pattern of the background that I want to pay attention to.
Looking at the upper part of Frieren, the sword held by the brave Himmel, the armor of crampons on the tip of the sword, and the symbol of Haiter drawn on his grave on both ends. Also, if you look closely at the blue pattern, Frieren and Fern's staff are drawn as if they crossed Himmel's sword, and Stark's ax is drawn on the lower right. It looks like a painting.
"Weekly CoroCoro Comic" (Shogakukan) "Puneru is cute slime" in the serialization of Maeda-kun, "funeral Frieren..." rather than "Heisei of Frieren" announced a humorous illustration called. Frieren dressed in high-saturation coloring apparel, including girly pop shoes. Himmel is now smiling at the appearance of wearing fashion like a Heisei girl.
In Frielen's hand is a handheld training game that symbolizes the Heisei era. In addition, a strap imitating Aura's "balance of obedience" is also drawn. Maybe Frielen's "magic of obedience" makes Fern think that Heisei fashion has become a trend.
Takahiro Kato, who is serializing "Psycho Eyes" in "Sunday Ueburi" (Shogakukan), also wrote a very attractive illustration of Frieren. In "Frieren" Comics Volume 4, Episode 28, "Monk and Regret," Zain, who wants an older sister, is introduced to Frieren, but he is dissatisfied, saying, "This is not an older sister..." Frieren threw a kiss to such Zain.
Apparently, Zain was not affected by Frieren's throwing kiss. However, Stark was surprised that it was "too much...," and Fern covered his mouth with both hands.
There is no doubt that detailed and sophisticated drawing is one of the charms of this work. However, in the original work, Frieren's throwing kiss was drawn as a very simple frame. The cheering illustration drawn by Takahiro Kato this time can be said to be a faithful reproduction of the intense throwing kiss that Stark and Fern saw.
Perhaps Frieren's throwing kiss was something like "magic that kills people (Zoltrak)" that has different impressions depending on the era and recipient while destroying many people. Takahiro Katoh's support illustration is one piece that can give such awareness.
As of February 13, in addition to more than 10 cheering illustrations, "Shokugeki no Soma" (Shueisha) has also released fan art by Shun Saeki. In addition to the weekly anime broadcast and distribution, you can also enjoy the official X updates and cheering illustrations from writers.
