39 yo Mom of 2 here 👋
Balancing motherhood and personal fitness is a journey many of us embark on, and let me tell you, it's not always picture-perfect! As a mom of two, I've learned that maintaining my body shape isn't just about intense workouts; it's a holistic approach that fits into the beautiful chaos of mom life. I get so many questions about how I do it, so I wanted to share my personal routine and what truly works for me. First off, consistency is key, even if it's just 20-30 minutes a day. My weekly routine typically involves 3-4 days of strength training, often mixing in some high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to keep things interesting and efficient. I love hitting the gym when I can, it’s my dedicated 'me time,' but I also have a solid home workout setup for those days when getting out just isn't an option. You'll often find me in my favorite athletic wear, usually blue patterned leggings and a supportive sports bra, because feeling good in what you wear can definitely boost motivation! Sometimes, it's a quick session in my living room, other times I'm taking a mirror selfie in the gym or locker room after a great workout. When it comes to strength training, I focus on compound movements like squats, deadlifts (modified when needed!), and presses, which work multiple muscle groups at once. For HIIT, I'll do bursts of jumping jacks, burpees, mountain climbers, and sprints. The goal isn't to look like a bodybuilder, but to feel strong, energized, and capable of keeping up with my energetic kids! Nutrition plays an equally vital role. I don't follow any extreme diets, because let's be real, that's not sustainable with a family. Instead, I focus on balanced meals, plenty of protein to aid muscle recovery, and lots of vegetables. Meal prepping on Sundays is a lifesaver, ensuring I have healthy options readily available throughout the week. I also try to drink a lot of water – hydration is often overlooked but so important for energy and overall well-being. Beyond the physical, mental well-being is crucial. There are days when I feel exhausted, and that's okay. Listening to my body, getting enough sleep (when possible!), and practicing self-compassion are just as important as lifting weights. It's about progress, not perfection. This journey is about feeling good in my own skin, embracing my strength as a mom, and setting a positive example for my children. I hope sharing my approach helps you find what works for you on your journey to maintaining your desired body shape and living a vibrant, active life!
