Stay away from the water!!
In Bloom definitely starts off slow, but once Jimmy’s interview begins, the story takes hold and refuses to let go. From that point on, I was completely invested, hanging on to every detail and eager to see where the story would lead.
Jimmy compares the algae to Swamp Thing, but the imagery reminded me more of the eerie segment from the movie Creepshow where a strange substance in the water begins consuming people. That comparison made the horror feel even more unsettling.
The moment the story revealed that the algae could move across land gave me goosebumps. Something that terrifying escaping the safety of the water and spreading beyond its natural environment was genuinely creepy. It’s the kind of idea that lingers in your mind and makes you think twice about your next trip to the beach.
While the pacing may test some readers’ patience in the beginning, the payoff is worth it. It’s a quick, atmospheric read with an unsettling premise that sticks with you long after you finish.
Highly recommend for horror fans looking for a fast but memorable read. 📚🌿👀
