Hey everyone! Since so many of you are looking for Artfight prep tips and profile ideas, I wanted to share a bit more about how I get my OCs ready and make my profile shine! It's never too early to start, even if Artfight feels ages away. Crafting Your Artfight Profile: More Than Just a Pretty Face! Your Artfight profile is your digital canvas, your personal gallery for all your amazing original characters. I've found that a well-thought-out profile isn't just about listing your OCs; it's about telling a story and inviting others into your world. Think about how you want to present your characters. For example, when I was setting up my profile for characters like Lucas or Sam, I didn't just dump their basic info. I tried to hint at their deeper lore – like Lucas's tragic past connected to 'THE CHURCH' or Sam being targeted by an entity. These little teasers make people curious and want to draw them! Developing Engaging OCs: Beyond the Surface For me, the key to great Artfight OCs is rich backstories. Take Lauren, for instance; her memory loss instantly creates intrigue. Or Chris, with their selective mutism and connection to the church organ – it adds so many layers! Don't be afraid to delve into complex themes. My 'THE CHURCH' concept, for example, gives a unique setting and motivation for many of my characters. It's not just about what they look like, but who they are, what battles they've fought, and what secrets they hold. I love seeing people theorize about my characters, and that only happens when there's something to theorize *about*. Finding Your Art Fight Style and Inspiration One thing that really helps me (and can make your profile stand out!) is thinking about different artistic inspirations. I noted on my profile that for my annual style exercise, I've previously explored 'art nouveau' and am looking at 'deathnote' for 2025. This isn't just for me; it can give other artists a sense of your aesthetic and what kind of art they might create for you. When you're brainstorming your own OCs, think about what art styles or themes genuinely excite you. Do you love gothic vibes? Maybe a character like a 'goth femboy' (if that's your jam!) would fit perfectly in your roster, bringing that specific aesthetic to life. Or perhaps you're into historical fantasy, cyberpunk, or something completely unique. Let your personal style shine through your characters and their designs. Quick Tips for Your Profile Setup: Clear Character Refs: Make sure your OCs have clear, full-body reference sheets. Concise Bios: Give enough detail to be interesting, but don't write a novel. Highlight key personality traits and lore points. Permissions: Clearly state your permissions for others drawing your OCs (e.g., SFW only, no gore). Using an 'artfight permissions template' can save you a lot of time! Engage: Don't just post; interact with other profiles, comment on their OCs, and spread the love! Remember, Artfight is all about fun, creativity, and community. By putting a little extra effort into your OCs and profile, you're not just preparing for the fight; you're building a world that others can enjoy and contribute to. Can't wait to see what amazing OCs you all bring!
