Start a Winter Project With Me

Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. During my divorce, I had to make the tough decision to close my sewing business, and let me tell you—watching that dream end was no easy thread to cut. But what do you do when you’re left with bolts and bolts of fabric and no clear direction but it's winter and you have a significant houseless community nearby and you're low on expectable income and have ADHD and ... it could go forever.../Holland

Now, those stacks of fabric are turning into blankets and rice bags—simple, comforting items that I make when I feel like it. They’re for sale on my porch, completely self-serve and based on the honor system. Pay what you can, or pay it forward if you want to help someone else cozy up this season.

This little setup is doing wonders for my anxiety. I’m freeing up space (goodbye, fabric piles!) and giving back to my community in a small but meaningful way. Plus, it’s a low-effort way to share a piece of my past work while embracing a simpler, slower future.

So, if you’re local and want to pick up a cozy hug in the form of a blanket or rice bag, swing by. This porch project has already reminded me how much warmth and kindness people bring into life—even when things feel unraveled.

... Read moreAs winter approaches, many people seek ways to give back to their communities while indulging in creative pursuits. Projects like crafting blankets and rice bags can not only provide warmth to those in need but also serve as a therapeutic outlet for the creator. This winter, various organizations and individuals are advocating for initiatives that encourage art, crafting, and DIY activities, particularly aimed at helping those without homes. With the rise of community-based art projects, creating items such as blankets and comfort bags becomes a powerful way to foster social ties, promote mental health, and give back, especially during the colder months. Engaging in crafting can also serve as a form of self-care, providing individuals with a sense of accomplishment and purpose. To enhance this winter project, consider collaborating with local charities or shelters that could benefit from these warm gifts. Not only do you spread kindness, but you also create a community network that values support and compassion. Additionally, engaging with social media to showcase your craft can inspire others to partake in similar initiatives, effectively spreading a wave of kindness through shared creativity. Lastly, a self-serve payment system, like the one mentioned, encourages community involvement, providing individuals with the choice to contribute based on their circumstances. Whether through cash donations or simply paying it forward, this approach strengthens the community fabric while making art accessible.
