For instance, learning how the Bible is organized helped me see the flow from the Old to the New Testament, revealing God’s consistent plan of redemption. The Old Testament overview clarified the significance of laws, prophecies, and history in God’s unfolding story, while the New Testament overview highlighted the fulfillment in Jesus and the early church’s growth. Creating or following a Bible timeline was a game-changer for me; seeing events laid out chronologically made the stories and teachings more relatable and easier to remember. I also love slowing down to study one chapter at a time with questions like: Who is the author? What is the main message? How does it connect with the rest of Scripture? This practice helped me engage deeper instead of rushing through large texts. The SOAP method (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) is incredibly beginner-friendly and helped me connect God’s Word to my life practically. Recording what stuck out to me, what I learned about God, and praying through these insights made Bible study meaningful and transformative. Lastly, taking Bible notes regularly transformed my study habits. Instead of passively reading, I actively wrote key points, reflections, and applications, which helped me retain what I read and saw God working in my life over time. Using methods like outlines or mapping made my notes organized and easy to review. These simple but intentional steps encouraged me to approach the Bible with confidence and joy. If you’re starting or deepening your Bible study journey, I highly recommend trying these methods one at a time to see how God speaks uniquely through His Word to you.
