First week of college as a 19yr old
This week (jan 16) was my first week of college as a 19yr old freshman! At first i was so nervous n scared to be judged for going to college at 19 instead of 18 but honestly no one cares. Classes are fine, reminds me a lot of highschool and the teachers are mostly nice and some even let us out early. Only bad thing i’d say are most of my classes are at least one hour long and i have classes mon-sun :(
Hey everyone! So, Grace shared her first week experience starting college at 19, and it totally resonated with me. I also started college a little older than most, and let me tell you, those initial nerves about being 'different' are SO real. But just like Grace found out, almost immediately, no one actually cares! Honestly, most of your peers are wrapped up in their own new experiences, making new friends, and trying to figure out where their classes are. They’re not sitting there doing age calculations on every new person they meet. If anything, being 19 might even be an advantage! You might have a clearer sense of what you want, a bit more life experience, and better self-discipline. One huge piece of advice I wish I'd embraced more from day one is to dive into campus life right away. Remember those flyers for the 'Activity Fair' and 'Welcome Social' or the 'New Student Orientation' schedule? Those aren't just for 18-year-olds! These events are truly your golden ticket to meeting people. I know it can feel daunting to walk into a room full of strangers, but everyone is in the same boat, looking to connect. Go to the welcome social, check out the activity fair, and sign up for a few clubs that pique your interest. Whether it’s a gaming club, a hiking group, or a study circle for one of your classes, these are natural ways to find your tribe. Don't let the thought of 'being older' stop you from exploring all the amazing opportunities your college offers. Beyond the social scene, managing the academic side when you're 19 can also feel a bit different. You might be juggling more responsibilities than some younger classmates, or just feel the pressure to 'get it right.' Grace mentioned having long classes Monday through Sunday, which sounds intense! My tip for that is to get really good at time management. Use a planner (digital or physical!), break down assignments, and schedule your study times like they're non-negotiable appointments. Don't be afraid to utilize campus resources like tutoring centers or academic advisors – they're there to help you succeed, no matter your age or how long your classes are! And honestly, sometimes just taking a moment for yourself, even if it's a quick selfie break in the restroom after a tough class, can help you recharge. It's all part of finding your rhythm. Starting college at 19 isn't a setback; it's just a different starting point on an exciting journey. Embrace it, lean into the new experiences, and remember you've got this!

Love your sharing 💛 Welcome:)
