Fillers are what make bouquets feel alive 🌿
They’re where the movement comes from, the airy bits, the soft drape, the unexpected texture that makes everything else feel more intentional. I love how different fillers change the whole mood of a bouquet without ever stealing the spotlight ✨
This year I’m especially excited to grow fillers I’ve never grown before and let them surprise me, stretch my designs, and add new layers to the garden. It feels like opening up a whole new language in bouquet-making 🌸
Do you have a filler you always love seeing tucked into arrangements?
I’d love to know your favorite ⬇️🌿

From my personal experience growing and arranging flowers, fillers truly transform a bouquet from flat to dynamic. Plants like statice not only add fluffy texture but also provide longevity to bouquets, making them last longer indoors. One of my favorites is eucalyptus — its fragrance and variety of leaf shapes give bouquet designs a fresh and natural vibe. Amaranthus is a must-have for weddings; its drooping tassels create beautiful cascading effects that add hierarchy and elegance. I also love experimenting with lesser-known fillers like bupleurum, which offers both volume and delicate movement, and fennel, which is an underrated multitasker, serving as both filler and butterfly attractor in gardens. Growing these fillers yourself can be rewarding because you get to see how their textures and colors evolve throughout the season, helping you develop your own floral language. When designing bouquets, fillers play the subtle yet crucial role of blending focal flowers and creating airy spaces that invite the eye to move naturally across the arrangement. They also soften the overall look and bring a sense of intentionality and depth. If you’re new to flower farming or bouquet creation, I recommend starting with a few versatile fillers — like statice and eucalyptus — and gradually introducing unique varieties as you get more confident. Ultimately, fillers make floral designs feel alive by adding unexpected texture and movement, which can evoke different moods depending on the types and combinations you choose. They never steal the show but elevate the entire bouquet, turning simple floral clusters into captivating stories.
