Cambodia Travel Tips 🇰ðŸ‡
If you’re going on a Southeast Asia trip, you’re most likely going to stop by Cambodia. It has been the most interesting country visited in Southeast Asia — as things are cheap, hotels are affordable, yet so much of the country is untouched.
Here’s what to know:
- There are 2 currencies: USD & Riel
- Places take both, both most will prefer dollar bills. A lot of places don’t take credit card, so make sure you have enough in hand at all times
- Tipping culture is real
- A lot of people tip - even for the smallest things. Have small cash on you at all times because even when you’re not tipping, kids are always asking for money
- Technology isn’t the most advanced
- You’ll find wifi at most places but there have been a couple of times where I booked hotels through my credit card companies and 2/4 of them couldn’t find my reservations. You kind of have to walk people through the booking processes, or maybe that was just my luck!

When traveling to Cambodia, it's important to be aware of the unique aspects that can enhance your experience. The dual currency system in the country, which utilizes both USD and Riel, can be confusing for first-time visitors. While you can use both currencies, most places prefer payments in USD, so it's wise to carry small bills as credit cards aren't widely accepted. Tipping is also a significant part of the local culture; it's customary to offer small tips frequently, so keep small cash handy. In addition to financial tips, understanding the technological landscape is crucial. While many establishments offer Wi-Fi, users should be prepared for potential hiccups, such as difficulties in booking hotel reservations online. Patience and clear communication are necessary as staff might not be familiar with digital platforms. Lastly, expect a blend of modernity and tradition in your travels; Cambodia is still developing, so preparing for diverse experiences can make your trip even more enjoyable. With these tips, you'll be well-equipped for a memorable adventure in this captivating country.
