Saranac Lake... is it worth the visit? 🤔

Located about a 6 hour drive from Manhattan is where you're find Saranac Lake, a cute little town in Upstate NY. With some historical buildings, museums, cafes, and restaurants, it's a fun and quick getaway from the busy city life.

But what Saranac Lake attracts the most is Wild Lights at The Wild Center during the Winter. The entire center is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with lights in every corner with unique parts to the Center you must visit.

It's perfect to visit for the weekend as you'll have just the right enough time to see all that the town has to offer!

Saranac Lake
2024/12/11 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I first planned my trip to Saranac Lake, NY, I was looking for a true escape from the city hustle, and this charming Upstate New York village delivered! Beyond just being a pretty spot, I discovered so much more to explore, especially in the heart of downtown Saranac Lake. Wandering through the Saranac Lake New York village streets, I was immediately struck by the beautiful historic architecture. You can't miss the iconic clock tower that stands proudly, a real centerpiece of the town. I loved popping into the unique local shops – everything from artisan crafts and galleries to quaint bookstores. It felt like stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts. For a coffee lover like me, the cafes were a highlight. I found a cozy spot with delicious pastries, perfect for people-watching. The restaurants offer a great mix too, from casual diners to more upscale options. I particularly enjoyed a meal overlooking the lake; the views were absolutely breathtaking. While the original article mentions the magical Wild Lights at The Wild Center, which is genuinely a must-see in winter (and technically located near Tupper Lake, a short drive away), Saranac Lake offers plenty of other activities year-round. In warmer months, I'd highly recommend exploring the Saranac Chain of Lakes. Kayaking or paddleboarding is a fantastic way to experience the serene natural beauty up close. There are also numerous hiking trails for all skill levels, offering stunning panoramic views of the Adirondacks. I even stumbled upon a small local museum that shared fascinating insights into the town's history as a health resort, which added a rich layer to my visit. For anyone considering a weekend getaway from places like Manhattan (yes, it's about a 6-hour drive, but totally worth it!), Saranac Lake makes for an ideal destination. I found it easy to navigate the downtown area on foot, and parking was generally manageable. If you're staying for a few days, consider lodging options ranging from charming B&Bs to comfortable hotels, many with lake access. My top tip for visiting is to embrace the slower pace. It’s not about rushing from one attraction to the next, but savoring the atmosphere, the friendly locals, and the stunning natural surroundings. Whether you're looking for winter magic or summer adventures, Saranac Lake truly offers a unique and refreshing experience that left me feeling completely rejuvenated.
