All you need to know about hiking in Adirondacks

The Adirondacks is one of the best places to go hiking in Upstate New York. There are hikes and trails that will make you go “am I really in New York?” From growing up in the east coast, the best time to go visit the Adirondacks is during the Fall, or the Summer. It does get quite cold up there during the Winter months, but your jaws will be dropping when you visit during the foliage.

Things to know:

- I recommend renting a car because it can take you anywhere between 4-5 hours to get to the Adirondacks.

- Book in advance, especially during the Fall because housing is limited

If you want to go hiking, remember to bring the right shoes, lots of water, and prepare for hot and cold weather conditions! Some of my favorite trails are:

- Cascade Mountain — 4.4 round trip. Some of the most lush, greenery views on top

- Mount Colvin and Blake Peak Trail — 14 mile round trip. A very long and challenging route, but you’ll get the best bird eyes view of the Indian Head River at top.

- Indian Head — 6.1 mile round trip. It is a challenging hike, but worth it in the end.

Adirondack Mountains

... Read moreThe Adirondacks is renowned for its diverse and stunning hiking trails that offer breathtaking views and experiences. Particularly famous are the trails to Cascade Mountain, a moderate 4.4-mile round trip featuring lush greenery at the summit, and the challenging Mount Colvin and Blake Peak Trail, which spans 14 miles and rewards hikers with sweeping vistas of the Indian Head River. For those seeking a thrilling yet rewarding challenge, the Indian Head Trail presents a 6.1-mile trek that culminates in spectacular views. When planning your hiking adventure, consider renting a car to ease travel, as it can take between 4-5 hours to reach this beautiful destination from Manhattan. Accommodations can fill up quickly, especially during the peak fall season when the foliage is most vibrant, so it is advisable to book in advance. Prepare adequately for the varying weather conditions, packing sturdy hiking shoes and plenty of water to stay hydrated, regardless of the season. Whether you're chasing summer warmth or the stunning hues of autumn, the Adirondacks promises an unforgettable hiking experience.
