My favorite Dallas museums for history nerds 🏢

Calling out all my history nerds! Dallas has some incredible museums and artwork from pieces all over the world. There are so many museums to visit, but if you only have limited time, here are three must visit museums on your next trip to Dallas.

John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza

This is a special museum to visit. Located in the heart of Dallas is where you’ll find collections of tributes that commemorate our 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy. Stepping foot into this museum will make you feel like you are living in history as JFK has impacted and changed how America is today. Learn more about his legacy and spend some time unfolding the personalized meaning of all that he’s done for the country.

Meadows Museum

If you’re into Spanish art, then visiting the Meadows museum is a must. There are original pieces from artists such as Goya and Velazquez that will make you get lost in the art. The architecture is also extremely beautiful as well as there’s a lot of beautiful and inspiring art pieces to admire.

The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection

This one is a special, hidden gem for all art lovers. The summer collection at the Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum is located in Harwood District of Dallas, with pieces that will transport you back in time. Being in this museum truly wow’d me as these were the actual pieces that the samurai have worn back then.

In addition to the must-see museums mentioned, visitors can also explore the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which chronicles the life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. This powerful institution offers a detailed account of the events surrounding JFK's assassination and his impact on American history. Another noteworthy site is the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, where you can experience interactive exhibits that blend science with history, offering a fun and educational environment. For those who enjoy a more hands-on approach, the Dallas Heritage Village provides a glimpse into 19th-century Texas with its authentic buildings and living history demonstrations. Finally, don’t miss out on the Texas State History Museum, where you can learn about the rich heritage and diverse cultures that have shaped Texas over the years. With so many options, Dallas truly offers something for every type of history nerd!
