Outdoorsy day trips from NYC 🌳

The city has so much life, energy, and character. But once in a while, it’s nice to take day trips to get some fresh air in more nature-y places. Here are day trips you can take that won’t break the bank, and will have you back in your nyc apartment before midnight.

Long Branch Beach , NJ

- Located in the Jersey Shore, you’ll find a clean, calm, and fun beach only a 90-minute drive from NYC.

- What I love about this beach is that you can do everything from sitting in the sun to beach activities like volleyball — plus, there is a boardwalk with lots of yummy food options.

Harriman State Park

- We’re going north about an hour now to Harriman State Park. This is in the Hudson Valley region of New York State — and no, this is not considered “upstate” yet!

- There are over 300 miles of hiking trails!!!! Yes — so many. And these all differ from easy strolls to very challenging hikes. You can even camp here overnight, but some of my favorite places you need to visit are Lake Tiorati and Lake Welch.

Catskill

- If you leave early enough, you can beat traffic and get to The Catskills within 2 hours driving. It’s like the home to the outdoors of New York State, as you’ll find everything from cute little towns to light trails and harder hikes. It’s also where you’ll find scenic mountain ranges, and so many waterfalls!!! My favorite is the Kaaterskill Falls for hiking and photography

Yes — there are buses and tours that will take you to all these places but I recommend renting a car for the day. This way, you can travel at your own pace and move at your own time!!
