Bringing home my little fluffy puppy has been an absolute dream come true! I wanted it to be a safe, cozy den, not a punishment zone. I layered it with a soft blanket, a chew toy, and made sure it was in a quiet corner where he could still feel part of the family. My strategy for crate training was to introduce it gradually. I started by feeding him his meals inside the crate with the door open. Then, short periods with the door closed, always with praise and a treat when he was calm. For bedtime, I’d place a blanket over the crate to make it feel even more den-like and play some soft music. It wasn't overnight, but consistency was key! The first few days were a whirlwind of excitement and learning. Potty training a small puppy means frequent trips outside, practically every hour at first! I made sure to celebrate every successful potty break with lots of enthusiastic praise and a tiny treat. Hydration and appropriate nutrition are also super important for little ones. I learned quickly that small puppies can be prone to hypoglycemia if they don’t eat regularly, so I always kept an eye on his energy levels and made sure he had access to his food and water. Socialization has also been a big part of our journey. Gently introducing him to new sights, sounds, and friendly vaccinated dogs has helped him grow into a well-adjusted, confident little guy. Even though he’s a small dog, he has a huge personality! Every day is an adventure, and seeing him discover the world, whether it's chasing a leaf in the park or just snuggling on the couch, fills my heart with so much joy.
