... Read moreHosting a Parents Weekend brunch at FSU was one of the absolute best decisions my roommates and I made! It’s such a thoughtful and personal way to welcome your family, and your friends' families, to campus and give them a peek into your college life. If you're gearing up for FSU Parents Weekend and looking for ideas beyond just dinner reservations, let me share how we pulled off a fun, low-stress, and super memorable brunch right in our apartment. The first step is all about the food spread, and we aimed for delicious yet manageable. Our centerpiece was undoubtedly a fantastic charcuterie board. Don't be intimidated – it's easier than it looks! We picked up a few different types of cheese (a soft brie, a sharp cheddar, and some goat cheese), a couple of cured meats like prosciutto and salami, and then filled in the gaps with variety. Think about adding a handful of olives, some candied pecans, fig jam, and plenty of crackers. It’s interactive, visually appealing, and caters to different tastes. Alongside the savory, we made sure to have plenty of sweet treats. A platter piled high with fresh muffins – a mix of blueberry and chocolate chip – was a huge hit. You can bake them yourself if you're feeling ambitious, but store-bought ones work just as well and save a ton of time! We also prepared a vibrant fruit and vegetable platter. For fruit, think about what's in season: strawberries, grapes, melon slices, and orange segments make it colorful. For veggies, crisp cucumber, bell pepper strips, and baby carrots are perfect, especially when paired with a light ranch or a homemade yogurt dip. And of course, no brunch is complete without drinks. A big pitcher of refreshing orange juice was a must, along with a coffee station and plenty of water. Setting the scene doesn't require a huge budget. We hung a simple "FSU parents WEEKEND" banner that immediately set a festive 'Noles tone. Incorporating our school colors (garnet and gold!) with napkins or a tablecloth added a nice touch. A cheerful bouquet of fresh flowers in a vase instantly brightened up the table and made it feel more special. We also created a simple photo area. Just find a clear wall, perhaps hang some FSU-themed décor – maybe even a "Florida State Seminoles" flag if you have one! – and have a few fun props like oversized sunglasses or college hats. It was so much fun to snap pictures with our parents and friends' parents, capturing those precious memories. What truly made this brunch special was the relaxed atmosphere. It offered a comfortable space for our families to mingle, meet our roommates, and connect with other parents. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share stories, laugh, and just enjoy each other's company without the pressure of a formal restaurant. This low-key gathering was the perfect start before heading out to cheer on the Seminoles at a gameday or exploring other FSU Parents Weekend events around Tallahassee. My top tip for any college student considering this? Team up with your roommates! Divide the shopping, prep, and costs. It makes everything more manageable and turns it into a fun group effort. Ultimately, it’s about creating an unforgettable experience that celebrates family and the FSU spirit!

This cute, small brunch spot in Coral Gables is a must for college students! With the same owners as Miami Slice, you know the food's top-notch. The French toast is unique and delicious, while the eggs and toast are perfectly soft. The steak and eggs were amazing, just wish they were runnier. D
