TIPS FOR GYM ANXIETY

As a girl who has anxiety, I KNOW how intimidating the gym can be and It definitely doesn’t help when there’s so much misinformation and media around “do’s and dont’s”…

Before becoming a coach I was actually in the field of psychology which is where I was able to learn so many tactics that help with anxiety, so I thought I would share a few for when it comes to the gym☺️

1. EXPOSURE THERAPY

This is probably the MOST EFFECTIVE TIP I can give you (yet probably the scariest)…BUT THE good thing is that it’s only scary for the first bit! It’s true, the more you expose yourself to the thing that makes you anxious, the less anxious you’ll be about it. JUST KEEP SHOWING UP.

2. PLAN YOUR WORKOUTS AHEAD

There’s nothing worse than walking into the gym and having no clue where or what you’re going to start with…that’s why it’s SO IMPORTANT to plan your workouts ahead of time so that you don’t have to stress about what you’re going to do next and just focus on being present.

3. DON’T OVERTHINK

Remember that gym anxiety is SO NORMAL, and nobody is paying that much attention to you. Chances are, most of the people in the gym with you have experienced anxiety at some point of their journeys, and at the end of the day the gym is a SAFE PLACE. If anyone makes you feel otherwise, that is their problem, not yours.

Writing down your workout can enhance your confidence and maintain your motivation. Engaging in positive self-talk is another crucial element: remind yourself that everyone in the gym is focused on their workouts, just like you. Moreover, seeking support from friends or professional trainers can further bolster your confidence and help you create a safe, enjoyable gym experience. Remember, establishing a fitness habit takes time, and it's okay to progress at your own pace.
