4 TIPS TO HEAL YOUR INNER CHILD

Everyone’s upbringing looks different; but if there’s one thing we have in common it’s that we’ve all had experiences that have stuck and shaped us into the people we are today…both good and bad.

A lot of healing begins with simply being AWARE of what triggers you and intentionally trying to refrain from bringing your negative past experiences into your future in relationships, work, friendships and ESPECIALLY in the way that you treat yourself.

Here’s a few tips that have helped me heal my inner child, become more confident, and find self acceptance:

1. Do things that would make your childhood self proud

Instead of spiraling in the negative, use it for motivation to grow and be something absolutely amazing. Those childhood dreams existed for a REASON. Nothing can take that away from you.

2. Don’t be afraid to play!

Just because you’re an adult now, doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to have fun! Get outside, move your body in ways you used to love, or pick up a new hobby!

3. Become the person you needed when you were a kid

This is probably the best piece of advice I could give you. Think of the things that have hurt or triggered you in the past…what SHOULD have happened? How can you make sure that you don’t make anyone feel the way you once did? Being there for someone the same way you needed someone to be there for you is so incredibly healing.

4. Practice self compassion/patience

My favourite quote: “this is everyone’s first time living”. You can’t expect to be perfect just because you’re an adult. Breathe, make mistakes. It’s how you learn.

This concept revolves around embracing the traumas, experiences, and memories of your childhood that shape your current self. It's important to acknowledge your feelings and understand that your past does not define your future. Begin by recognizing any emotional triggers that arise in your life. This awareness is crucial as it allows you to address your wounds and work on them consciously. Consider engaging in activities that resonate with your younger self, such as pursuing hobbies, playing outdoors, or creating art. These actions can reignite joy and fulfillment in your life. Additionally, it is vital to support others in their healing journey by offering the compassion and love you wished for during your formative years. Practicing self-compassion also aids in this process. Remind yourself that growth is a journey; mistakes are part of learning. By treating yourself with kindness and understanding, you set a solid foundation for holistic healing and emotional resilience. As you work through these elements, consider journaling your thoughts or seeking support from therapy or community groups focused on mental health. Embracing this journey will empower you to heal from the past and build a more fulfilling, authentic life.
