Celebrating Boxwoods

We are celebrating our Boxwood Grove fragrance!

Experience the legendary Villa Pisani labyrinth maze , built in 1720 and known as the most challenging maze in the world.

Immerse yourself in its unmatched beauty and historical significance. Even Napoleon, after claiming the estate in 1807, was unable to conquer its twisting paths and countless dead ends. The Villa Pisani, also known as National, is a must-see attraction on the Riviera del Brenta, attracting over 150,000 visitors annually. Originally built for the Pisani family, the villa was later home to Napoleon Bonaparte and his stepson Eugene de Beauharnais. This illustrious palace, located in Stra within the province of Venice, was constructed for Alvise Pisani, a prominent member of the family and eventual doge in 1735.

The maze is open from April to September, closed only during Easter and Easter Monday.

... Read moreAfter hearing so much about the legendary Villa Pisani labyrinth, I finally got to experience its twisting paths for myself! You know, the one Napoleon famously couldn't conquer? Well, I definitely felt his frustration at times, but what an unforgettable adventure it was. If you're planning a trip to Italy, especially along the Riviera del Brenta, this isn't just a garden maze; it's a historical challenge waiting to be explored. Stepping into the maze, you're immediately surrounded by these incredibly dense green hedges, forming an intricate circular design. It's truly a work of art, but don’t let its beauty fool you – it’s genuinely disorienting! My goal, like everyone else’s, was to reach the central tower. I remember feeling a mix of excitement and mild panic as I navigated countless dead ends. There were moments I thought I'd never find my way out! The trick, I discovered, isn't just about finding the right path, but also remembering which wrong turns you've already taken. It’s a true test of patience and spatial reasoning. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I spotted the magnificent spiral staircase tower rising from the heart of the labyrinth. Climbing those ornate railings rewarded me with the most incredible panoramic view. From up there, you can truly appreciate the vastness and the perfect geometric patterns of the lush green hedge maze, a sea of green stretching out beneath you. It was amazing to see fellow maze-goers still struggling below, and I could even spot the grand facade of the Villa Pisani itself, perfectly reflected in the calm body of water nearby. It gave me a new appreciation for the sheer scale and architectural genius behind this garden. If you’re thinking of tackling this challenge, here are a few tips from my visit. First, wear comfortable shoes – you'll be doing a lot of walking! While the article mentions it's open from April to September, I’d highly recommend going on a weekday morning right after it opens. It can get quite busy, and fewer people mean a more serene (and less confusing!) experience. Expect to spend at least 30-60 minutes inside the maze itself, depending on your navigational skills. Don't forget your camera, especially for those shots from the central tower – they're truly postcard-worthy! And if you get completely stuck, don't worry, there are usually staff members on standby who can offer a gentle hint or two. But the Villa Pisani is more than just its famous labyrinth. After conquering the maze, take the time to explore the rest of the estate. The classical building itself is stunning, with its three arched doorways and elegant balustrades. I loved strolling along the stone pathway lined with weathered classical statues, leading towards the impressive columned facade. The reflection of the villa in the water creates such a symmetrical and elegant scene that it’s simply breathtaking. It’s a place steeped in history, from the Pisani family to Napoleon, and you can truly feel that grandeur as you walk through the grounds. It makes for a perfect day trip and a fantastic addition to any Italy travel itinerary.

How are you guys celebrating/coping?
To me, a Brat Summer means not caring about what the hater's say/i.e. following your heart, buying yourself a treat from the gas station, living in the moment, complimenting your friends by calling them "So Julia", dancing your ass off, and being an ally to the gay community. #letsc
