... Read moreThere’s nothing quite like a birthday to usher in a fresh stack of books, and this year’s birthday book haul did not disappoint! I spent some quality time browsing the shelves at Barnes & Noble, and my basket quickly filled up with some highly anticipated titles. It's always a thrill to find new worlds to get lost in, and my birthday provided the perfect excuse to indulge. First up, I finally got my hands on 'A Deadly Education' by Naomi Novik. I've heard so much buzz about this dark academia fantasy series, and I'm ready to dive into its magical (and dangerous) world. Following that, I couldn't resist 'Shatter Me' by Tahereh Mafi. The dystopian YA romance genre has a special place in my heart, and I've seen this one recommended everywhere. I'm really curious to see what makes it so captivating. My love for Greek mythology retellings also led me to pick up 'Ariadne' by Jennifer Saint and 'The Shadow of Perseus' by Claire Heywood. Reimagined ancient tales are such a treat, offering new perspectives on classic stories. For something a bit spookier, 'What Moves the Dead' by T. Kingfisher, described as a horror retelling of 'The Fall of the House of Usher,' sounds absolutely perfect for a chilling night in. I'm always on the lookout for a good horror novel, and this one has been on my radar. Venturing into other exciting genres, I grabbed 'Scythe' by Neal Shusterman. Dystopian science fiction is always a win for me, especially when it comes in a Young Adult package that promises thought-provoking themes. And 'Weyward' by Emilia Hart, with its multi-generational magical realism, promises to be a unique and enchanting read – the cover alone is stunning! I also managed to find 'The Last Heir to the Blackwood Library' by Hester Fox, which whispers promises of historical fantasy and paranormal elements, two things I adore. And for a bit of a high fantasy farce, 'Dreadful' by Caitlin Rozakis caught my eye with its intriguing premise. I'm excited to see how these unique stories unfold. Beyond my Barnes & Noble spree, my birthday also brought some wonderful gifted books! I'm particularly excited about 'A Secret History of Witches' by Louisa Morgan, which sounds like a fascinating historical fantasy exploring generations of women and their magic. Other gifted titles like 'Cage of Stars' by Jacquelyn Mitchard and 'A House in the Sky' by Amanda Lindhout & Sara Corbett promise diverse and compelling stories that I can't wait to explore. These are all going straight to my ever-growing TBR pile! I'm so thrilled to have a fresh stack of books to explore. If you've read any of these titles, especially 'A Deadly Education,' 'Shatter Me,' 'Scythe,' or 'What Moves the Dead,' I'd love to hear your spoiler-free thoughts in the comments. Which one should I start with first from this epic birthday book haul? Happy reading, everyone!
