Read moreWith the impending TikTok ban creating uncertainty for book lovers and content creators within the BookTok community, Tome emerges as a promising platform to preserve this vibrant culture. Unlike other popular social media apps that prioritize video content, Tome offers a unique, slower-paced, diary-like experience that appeals to users who prefer text and photo-based sharing. This approach aligns with Lemon8's community values, catering to readers who enjoy sharing their thoughts, reviews, and daily reading journeys in a more thoughtful environment. Tome is currently available on Apple devices, with early beta access for Android users expanding ahead of the full release scheduled for July 29, 2025. This phased rollout allows book enthusiasts to familiarize themselves with the app’s features and build foundational communities before broader access. Users can customize their profiles, maintain reading journals similar to digital diaries, and engage with fellow bookworms through discussion threads and collections. The app’s integration of well-known literary platforms such as Goodreads, StoryGraph, and Barnes & Noble adds credibility and relevance, helping users seamlessly track their readings and share insights. Influencers like greeneclipse_reads advocate for Tome as a critical new space for the book community, emphasizing the importance of retaining their connection and the joy of discovering books and authors without the pressure of video-centric content. Moreover, Tome encourages community-building through themed hashtags such as #tomeishome, #tiktokban, #lemon8bookclub, and #booktok. These hashtags strengthen discovery and foster a sense of belonging among users transitioning from TikTok to this new platform. Readers can exchange personalized recommendations and support independent authors while maintaining the authentic social experience cherished within the BookTok culture. Overall, Tome represents a thoughtful evolution in social media tailored to the literary community’s needs, offering an alternative platform that honors reading as a communal, reflective, and engaging activity.
