Freida McFadden Books Ranked and Rated🔪🔍📚
I have been slacking on my reviews lately and I love Freida McFadden so I thought it would be fun to rank and rate all the ones I've read at once!
How excited are all you fellow Freida fans for the Housemaid movie thats coming out?! Do you think they will do the book justice? What do you hope to see on screen?
Well let's get into it my ranking and ratings from my favorite to least favorite:
My number 1 has to be:
👶The Perfect Son
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a perfect refresh after finishing the Housemaid series. It had all the twists you would expect from Freida but done even better in my opinion. If you only read the Housemaid series and felt it was repetitive I encourage you to pick this one up. A completely different vibe with an ending that makes you think
Coming in at number 2 is
🧹The Housemaid
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the first book I read of hers. It truly got me into the thriller/mystery genre so I had to place it high. So many twists I didnt see coming and im so glad I took a chance on this book.
Number 3
🔒The Inmate
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This one had a great premise. Women returns to her home town after leaving due to a tragedy she was involved in during her teenage years. The only reason I removed a star is because the main character was incredibly frustrating and sometimes lacked common sense. To be fair I did not see the ending twist coming anyways but the entire time I was rolling my eyes. I do like the multi point of view with the flashbacks to what happened in the past.
Number 4
🏠The Housemaid is Watching
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
The 3rd book in the Housemaid series. This one got me back into Freida McFaddens books. It wasn't as predictable as the second book and I liked seeing the growth of the main characters life. Unfortunately though if it was a stand alone book not apart of the series, and we didnt have the attachment to the main character, I don't think it would hold its own. The twist wasn't that shocking and it didnt wow me.
Number 5
🎁The Gift
⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a short story at only 47 pages but I enjoyed it. Would i recommend you pay for it? No lol. I read it with Kindle Unlimited. It was a spooky Christmas themed thriller that made me go "huh that's crazy" at the end but thats about it.
Number 6.
🩸The Housemaid's Secret
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The second book in the series. Didn't wow me but didnt hate it for me that means 3 stars. It was meh. Kinda predictable and the book that made me have the false assumption all her books would be the same format (im glad I was wrong). If you felt the same way try one of her stand alone books.
Number 7.
👰The Housemaid's Wedding
⭐️⭐️
The 4th book in the Housemaid Series that takes place between book 2 and 3. A super short story at only 76 pages that again after reading it I am glad I didnt pay for and read on KU. If you really need to know what happened go for it but it doesn't add anything you need to know. Am I glad I got to read it? Yes. Would I say its necessary? Absolutely not. Feels like a cash grab to be honest....

So, you've devoured a few Freida McFadden books and you're wondering which ones to pick up next, or maybe you're just starting your journey into her thrilling world. As a fellow fan, I've found her books are truly addictive, largely due to her signature style: short, punchy chapters, often unreliable narrators, and twists that consistently leave your jaw on the floor. It's not just about the 'what happened,' but the 'who did it' and, more importantly, 'why' that keeps you glued to the pages. Her ability to weave intricate plots with unexpected turns has garnered her a massive following, and it’s no wonder why so many of us are constantly on the lookout for her next release. If you're new to Freida McFadden, you might be overwhelmed by where to begin. Many start with *The Housemaid*, and for good reason – it's a fantastic introduction to her domestic thriller genius, brimming with suspense and a truly memorable main character. It's a masterclass in building tension. However, don't limit yourself to just the series. For those seeking a fresh, standalone experience with an equally compelling plot that stands on its own, I highly recommend *The Perfect Son*. It showcases her ability to craft incredibly unique and thought-provoking scenarios outside of a recurring cast, proving her versatility beyond familiar characters. The twists in her standalones often feel even more unexpected because you don't have the luxury of familiar patterns. Her books often explore gritty themes of hidden secrets, psychological manipulation, and the darker side of seemingly ordinary lives. You'll find yourself questioning everyone and everything, and that's part of the fun! For instance, The Inmate offers a really fascinating premise, diving deep into past actions and their repercussions, and it explores the idea of returning to a place where you're forever marked by tragedy. Even if you might occasionally find yourself disagreeing with a character's choices, the plot progression is relentlessly gripping. Then there are the shorter, sharper reads like *The Gift*, which proves she can deliver a chilling punch in just a few pages, perfect for a quick fix when you need a dose of suspense without committing to a full novel. These novellas are great for testing the waters or for a quick escape. When you delve into the larger Housemaid series, including *The Housemaid's Secret*, *The Housemaid is Watching*, and even the very short *The Housemaid's Wedding*, you'll notice how she develops characters and plotlines across multiple narratives. While some might find series entries can vary in impact – a common occurrence in any long-running series – they still offer that quintessential McFadden twist, often building on previous events in clever ways. It's always a debate among fans which installment hits hardest or manages to surprise the most! Reading them in order certainly adds to the overall experience, allowing you to see characters evolve. A pro tip for reading any Freida McFadden book: never trust your initial assumptions. Just when you think you've figured out the big reveal, she'll expertly pull the rug out from under you, often multiple times! This is what makes her books so ridiculously fun and keeps you eagerly flipping pages. Whether you prefer a chilling standalone or a deep dive into a series, there's a Freida McFadden thriller waiting to keep you up all night. Happy reading, and prepare to have your mind blown!
