A New Spooky Book For The TBR📚🔪

🌲Don't Forget The Girl

AUTHOR: Rebecca McKanna

GENRES: Thriller, Psychological Fiction

PAGES: 320

The reviews REALLY sold me on this one! It's a

thriller with 2 timelines and 3 different POVS. There's interviews and a podcast script. The sentiment "We Never Remember The Dead Girls. We Never Forget The Killers" is not just one of fiction. It's something I think about a lot while watching anything true crime, especially some YouTubers. I have been thinking about this book ever since I saw it in store, so when my fiancé got a B&N gift card I knew just the book I wanted to order. I am so excited to read this one especially since fall is right around the corner!

... Read moreIf you're intrigued by psychological thrillers that challenge conventional storytelling, 'Don’t Forget The Girl' offers a compelling exploration of friendship, secrets, and the shadow of a serial killer’s crimes. The story unfolds across two timelines, centering on Abby Hartmann’s disappearance and the emotional aftermath among her estranged friends Bree and Chelsea. This narrative depth provides a fresh take on the true crime genre, especially through the inclusion of podcast script elements, which reflect our culture’s fascination with investigative storytelling. The theme “We Never Remember The Dead Girls. We Never Forget The Killers” resonates deeply, highlighting how victims’ stories often fade while the perpetrators’ infamy endures. This book invites readers to reflect on this imbalance, encouraging empathy for the victims and a critical view of media sensationalism. Rebecca McKanna’s debut challenges readers to piece together the mystery through multiple perspectives and media formats, enriching the psychological tension. For those building their fall TBR (To Be Read) pile, this novel’s layered approach and exploration of unvoiced resentments make it an unmissable pick. Fans of Megan Goldin and Heather Gudenkauf, who also explore themes of complex friendships and dark secrets in thrillers, will likely appreciate McKanna’s nuanced writing style. With the rise of true crime podcasts and series, this book’s integration of interview transcripts and audio storytelling captures the zeitgeist, enhancing immersive reading. In addition to the psychological suspense, the emotional reunion of old friends facing painful truths adds a human element that resonates beyond the genre conventions. This makes 'Don’t Forget The Girl' not just a thriller, but a story about memory, grief, and the secrets we carry. Whether you’re an avid thriller reader or new to psychological fiction, this novel’s innovative narrative structure and haunting theme provide a thought-provoking, page-turning experience perfect for cozy autumn reading.
