An Introduction to Crochet Tapestry
Since recently finishing my last tapestry I’ve learned a lot about crochet tapestry and would love to share it with you all.
Skill Level:
Intermediate-Difficult
the difficulty depends on the size, amount of colors and the pattern. If you’re new to crochet and would like to challenge yourself I suggest a simple small pattern with 2 colors.
Techniques:
Crocheting Over Yarn
Though this method is simple but it is the worst for making tapestry crochet. The colors will peak through and will make your work very bulky and the pattern will not be easily seen. But the technique can be used as you go to crochet over loose ends if you’re working with the same color.
Using Bobbins
This is my favorite method and the most mindless for me. It’s the best technique if you’re using more than two colors. The only draw back is at the end of your project you will have a Lot of ends to tuck in but the fully reversible plus is worth it. CrochetCrys has a YouTube tutorial on the technique.
Traveling Your Yarn
This is a very fun technique and perfect if you’re only working with two colors. However it makes working on the back a little more difficult because you need to avoid crocheting over yarn along the back, keeping the tension and your work will not be reservable.
Overall Notes
If you’re considering making a tapestry. Do it, though it is initially challenging it is very fun and super worth it when it’s finished.
