Weekly Fruit Lunch Box
Lately we have been making a fruit lunch box for the whole week! I have been craving tons of fruit and the fruit boxes at the grocery store are $20 and you get less variety than when you can make your own.
We did a costco trip and loaded up on a bunch of fruits. In this box we only used 1/2 of a cantalope and 1/2 of a mini watermelon. 3 kiwis, 3 mangos and some oranges as well. We have plenty of fruits left and it cost us $20 to buy everything individually and this will probably make 2-3 more of these same size boxes.
Sooo worth the effort for a yummier and cheaper fruit box.
Preparing a weekly fruit lunch box like this is a wonderful way to ensure you always have nutritious snacks ready without overspending. Shopping at wholesale retailers like Costco can be a game changer, as bulk buys of seasonal fruits such as cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi, mangos, and pineapple mean you get more fruit for your dollar compared to pre-packaged boxes. To keep things fresh throughout the week, it helps to store fruits properly. For example, melons and pineapples can be cut and sealed in airtight containers or zip-top bags and refrigerated. Kiwis and mangos can be left whole until closer to consumption to preserve their texture and flavor. Additionally, mixing a variety of fruits not only provides diverse nutrients but also keeps your snacks interesting and satisfying. For instance, cantaloupe is rich in vitamin A and C, watermelon is hydrating and low-calorie, while mangos and kiwi add sweetness and a tropical twist packed with antioxidants. From personal experience, the effort of prepping your own fruit boxes at the start of the week pays off in convenience and cost savings. I’ve found that dividing large fruits like cantaloupe and watermelon into several snack boxes stretches the ingredients further. This approach also minimizes food waste and helps me stay on track with healthier eating habits without resorting to expensive grocery store fruit trays. If you want to elevate your fruit lunch box even more, consider adding a small container of Greek yogurt or a handful of nuts to balance the natural sugars with protein and healthy fats. This makes the lunch box not only refreshing but more satiating for longer energy throughout the day. In summary, assembling your own weekly fruit lunch box with a variety of fresh fruits is both budget-friendly and rewarding. It encourages mindful eating, reduces cost compared to store-bought options, and guarantees a colorful and tasty treat to look forward to every day.
