Current State of Mind: Self-Promotion Anxiety🫣

#hellolemon8

I started reselling clothes since 2017 mainly on Depop. I changed selling platforms since then, trying to sell on Vinted, Whatnot, and Teleport, since Depop’s shipping fees increased. I have trouble selling to potential customers because I haven’t been promoting myself on any platforms.

I feel embarrassed to put myself out there and promote my items because I worry about coming off as too pushy or not meeting expectations. It’s tough to balance self-promotion with staying genuine, and I often second-guess whether my clothes are really what people are looking for. I wonder if I’m truly cut out to be a small business owner or if I’m just overthinking the whole process.

Despite these doubts, I know I need to find a way to overcome this anxiety and be more proactive. Maybe starting small with less intimidating steps could help build my confidence and make the process feel more manageable.

I also want to try to sell in person like an event at my college or a yard sale, since there won’t be any tax added on.

What’s some advice to help? @letschat

... Read moreSelf-promotion anxiety is common among resellers, especially for those starting their journey in selling clothes online or at local events. Understanding your target audience is crucial; it can help tailor your marketing strategies effectively. Utilize social media to create engaging content that showcases your unique fashion items while connecting with potential buyers in a non-intrusive way. Consider participating in reselling communities where you can share experiences and learn from others who have faced similar challenges. Feedback from fellow resellers can provide valuable insight to boost your self-confidence. Additionally, hosting small in-person events at college campuses or community fairs can reduce the pressure of online promotion and allow for direct engagement with customers. Selling in person also offers the benefit of immediate feedback, which can enhance your selling strategy over time. Experimenting with visual storytelling through platforms like TikTok or Instagram can be particularly effective. Short videos that illustrate how items can be styled or worn convey authenticity and open up dialogues with your audience. Remember, starting small and accepting that self-promotion is a skill developed over time can help ease anxiety and build a successful reselling business.

A woman on a train looks out the window, with text 'SIGNS YOU HAVE HIGH FUNCTIONING ANXIETY' and 'SWIPE' indicating the start of a series. She appears thoughtful, reflecting the hidden nature of this anxiety.

people's picture of anxiety is often different from the reality. it isn’t always sweaty palms, a shaky voice, and panic attacks. sometimes it's a small voice, that only you can hear that constantly reminds you of everything you lack. “you aren’t good enough” “but what if the worst happe
