what happened last semester (part 1) ⏪

so last fall semester, I kept myself busy hosting events for my Filipino club and tried to experience a lot of things happening on campus❣️

I worked at a 5K for campus rec in the morning and stayed for their la copa soccer tournament until I had to get ready for musicpalooza 🎶

I was reselling my clothes in person for the first time and surprised that people wanted to purchase! even Goldie stopped by! for my first time, I made $34 💸

We have a community garden on campus, but not a whole lot of students are aware of it. It has been neglected for a while, but the green conservation group club is planning to recover and revive it! 🌺

I attended an improv workshop for the first time at the el centro campus with a few members of tellin’ tales theatre. I didn’t go back after this day since it was kind of late in the evening, but if there is opportunity again, I would go! 🎭

Our university president had been inaugurated this year as the 8th president of NEIU 🦅

There was a small Oktoberfest on campus, and I loved the props and photo opportunities that were there for students like stacks of hay and pumpkins. There were apple cider donuts and a German band! The downside was that there was no beer (nor non-alcoholic beer) and the bratwurst was terrible 😢

Campus Rec has a rock climbing wall and I climbed it for the first time! I have not been able to go back and try again, but hopefully in the near future I’ll overcome my fear of heights! I also hosted a fun team building event for my Filipino club and the green conservation group club. 🧗

The Art + Design Department hosted a fall fest where students and community members can participate in workshops and activities that are hosted by the professors! I had fun creating buttons and looking through the scrap table to add to my scrapbooking collection. I also had time to learn how to make a wire sculpture in the wood making classroom 🖌️

Working at events such as a campus 5K not only helps with physical fitness but also provides opportunities for networking and job experience. Exploring underutilized spaces like community gardens can connect students with sustainability efforts while increasing awareness amongst peers. Initiatives organized by groups focused on green conservation are crucial as they revive such important resources. Taking part in workshops, such as improv or art classes, can ignite creativity and help break out of comfort zones. Participating in art events also provides the chance to hone new skills, from crafting wire sculptures to designing buttons. Attending campus celebrations like Oktoberfest introduces students to cultural traditions while offering fun activities. The importance of such gatherings enhances the social fabric of campus life. Overall, each of these experiences contributes significantly to personal growth and community building, showcasing the vibrant student life at universities.
