what happened last semester (part 2) ⏪️

this past semester I worked a lot with campus rec during events 🏃🏻‍♀️

we started the semester hosting team building activities for first-year students and transfer students. here we are racing to get the hula-hoop through all the way around! 🌺

on coming out day in october, we hosted a queer prom with “monsters” as our theme. it was so much fun dancing around with friends! I dressed up as a vintage zombie diner girl 🧟‍♀️

my filipino club hosted karaoke on two separate occasions. I hosted “kare-karaoke” where we ate filipino food and sang songs from fil-am artists. kare kare is a filipino dish made with ox tail and includes peanut sauce 🎤

another karaoke event is where we stayed up all night at campus rec. we had so much fun queuing up students and watch them sing their favorite songs or sing their heart out loud! we became delirious towards the end of it 🎶

on halloween, campus rec hosted a haunted hallway where the racquetball courts were. we decorated the hallway with all spooky props and I dressed up as mothman. I passed out popcorn and candy to trick-or-treaters 🎃

during leading & learning week, we learned about budgeting and investing in 401k plan. TRiO students had an opportunity to add themselves to a slideshow. it is like a little retreat on campus ⭐️

the filipino club and campus rec collaborated together to have a rock climbing day and free time to play badminton and volleyball. we also had empanadas from filipino restaurants like Red Ribbon Bakeshop and Bayan Ko 🧗

every semester, student leadership development (SLD) hosts a diversity food fest for student orgs or departments to share and sell food to raise funds for their clubs. I made oatmeal lemon cookies for this event. it was so much fun seeing and trying different foods 🫔

before thanksgiving break, I hosted my first big event! we had a friendsgiving with filipino food from Jollibee and SUBO Filipino Kitchen and white rice from Teriyaki Madness. we played filipino games and gave away prizes to winners. there was also a live performer! overall, I think I had a good time hosting this big event 🦃

since times have changed, I did step down from being president but am still doing student leadership roles. who knows, maybe I’ll host an event again.

First-year students were engaged in diverse team-building exercises, kicking off the semester with energetic hula-hoop challenges! A highlight was the queer prom for Coming Out Day, themed “Monsters.” This joyful event featured music and dance that fostered inclusivity and celebration among friends. Additionally, the Filipino club contributed to a lively atmosphere with karaoke nights celebrating Filipino artists and cuisine, enhancing cultural appreciation. Participants relished traditional dishes like kare-kare while enjoying performances from their peers. Halloween festivities saw the campus transformed into a haunted hallway, complete with spooky decorations, where I dressed as Mothman and shared treats with enthusiastic trick-or-treaters. Learning was also on the agenda, with the Leading & Learning Week providing invaluable insights into budgeting and investing, crucial for student financial literacy. Students got hands-on experience, improving their leadership skills. One of the standout moments was the Friendsgiving event, where we savored delicious Filipino cuisine with dishes from renowned local restaurants. The event not only promoted cultural heritage but also fostered connections among students. These experiences highlighted the essence of college life—a vibrant mix of learning, culture, and community. As I continue to navigate my student leadership roles, I look forward to future events that unite and inspire our campus community.
