Being sick is no fun! As a college student, the common cold can become the norm for anyone as we are constantly introduced to new surroundings and opportunities and with these are viruses.

However, I am here today to show you the one drink that has become a cornerstone of my daily routine when I am under the weather. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!

Here are the instructions:

Ingredients:

1 large lemon (juiced)

2 Tbsp honey

2 Tsp cinnamon

Finding effective relief that doesn't empty your wallet is key! Beyond that simple, soothing drink recipe, I’ve picked up a few more tips and insights over semesters of battling sniffles and sore throats. First, let's talk about why those star ingredients – lemon, honey, and cinnamon – are so fantastic for cold relief. I always make sure I have a fresh lemon on hand because it's packed with Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that can help support your immune system. Plus, the tartness can really help cut through congestion and soothe a scratchy throat. Then there's honey. This isn't just a sweetener; it's a natural wonder! I've found that a good spoonful of honey can work wonders for calming a cough, especially at night. It coats the throat, providing immediate relief, and some studies even suggest it has mild antibacterial properties. When I'm feeling extra run down, I reach for local raw honey if I can find it, but any pure honey will do the trick. And for that warm, comforting spice? Cinnamon. It's not just for pastries! Cinnamon is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can be really beneficial when your body is fighting off a cold. For those wondering about sourcing, I personally often stock up on my ground cinnamon from Trader Joe's. Their spices are usually quite fresh and affordable, making it perfect for a college budget. Just make sure it's fresh for the best flavor and benefits. Mixing these with hot water isn't just about making a drink; the steam itself can help clear nasal passages and ease congestion, turning your simple cold reliever into a mini-spa treatment for your airways. Beyond this wonderful concoction, here are a few more things I’ve learned keep me going through cold and flu season: Hydration is your best friend: Keep sipping on water, herbal teas, or clear broths throughout the day. Dehydration can make cold symptoms feel even worse. Rest, rest, rest: I know it's hard with assignments and exams, but giving your body the chance to recover is crucial. Even an extra hour or two of sleep can make a huge difference. Garlic Power: If you can handle it, adding a minced clove of fresh garlic to your soup or even just chewing on a small piece can provide a powerful immune boost due to its allicin content. Humidifier Help: A cheap humidifier in your dorm room can work wonders for dry coughs and congestion, especially in dry winter air. Stay Clean: Frequent hand washing is a must. Viruses spread quickly in shared living spaces, so keeping your hands clean can prevent re-infection or spreading it to others. Remember, this delicious drink is a great way to ease symptoms and support your body, but if your symptoms worsen, or you develop a high fever, it’s always best to consult with a doctor. Stay warm, stay hydrated, and feel better soon!
