Spicy chicken wrap 🤤

TW E.D.

I’ve been spending too much money on takeout wraps and have really been restricting myself with calories during the day lately. I used to do low carb wraps only 50-100(not counting fillers) calories and would be so frustrated when I was still hungry. I finally graduated to wraps over 200 calories. I felt that if I bought it from a restaurant I couldn’t see the calories and it didn’t matter but man that would burn a hole in my wallet. I’m slowly reassuring myself and finding out that it’s so much healthier making it yourself if you can and ITS OKAY. It took me well over 8 years to find that out. If you struggle with the same thing, I am always here to help 🥹♥️#disorder #help #eating #support

... Read moreHey foodies! Building on my journey of finding joy in homemade meals, I wanted to share more practical tips for creating that delicious spicy chicken wrap with spicy mayo right in your own kitchen. It's truly a game-changer for your wallet and your well-being, helping you feel satisfied without the guilt often associated with takeout. First things first: the chicken! To get that fantastic 'grilled chicken wrap' flavor, you don't necessarily need an outdoor grill. A hot pan or indoor grill pan works wonders. I like to cut boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs into strips. Marinate them for at least 20-30 minutes (or even overnight!) in a simple mix of olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, a pinch of cayenne for extra heat, salt, and pepper. Then, cook them until beautifully browned and cooked through. If you prefer a quicker option, rotisserie chicken works perfectly – just shred it and toss it with your favorite spices. Next up, the star of the show: the creamy, zesty spicy mayo! This magical sauce brings everything together. My go-to recipe is incredibly simple: 1/2 cup good quality mayonnaise (you can use light mayo for a lower-calorie option) 1-2 tablespoons sriracha or your favorite hot sauce (adjust to your spice preference – I love a good kick!) 1 teaspoon lime juice (freshly squeezed makes all the difference!) A pinch of garlic powder A tiny dash of sugar or honey (optional, to balance the heat) Whisk these ingredients until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust – need more heat? Add more hot sauce! Want more tang? A little extra lime! This homemade version is so much fresher and you control exactly what goes into it. Now for the assembly! Grab your favorite large tortilla or wrap. I often opt for whole wheat wraps for extra fiber, but any type works. Spread a generous layer of your homemade spicy mayo. Then, pile on your cooked chicken. This is where you can really make it your own! I always add plenty of crisp lettuce, sometimes some thinly sliced red onion, diced tomatoes, or even some shredded carrots for extra crunch and nutrients. Don't be afraid to add other veggies like bell peppers or corn. The OCR mentioned a 'creamy, possibly cheesy or spicy filling' and 'lettuce', which perfectly complements this! If you like a bit of cheese, a sprinkle of shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack melts beautifully when the wrap is warmed slightly. Toasting your wrap lightly in a dry pan for a minute or two on each side once assembled can take it to the next level, giving you a slightly crispy exterior and warming the fillings. It’s those little touches that make homemade feel gourmet. Remember, the goal here is to create a meal that feels indulgent and satisfying, but also aligns with your health goals. Making it yourself means you're in charge of the ingredients, ensuring quality and freshness. It’s not about restriction, but about smart, delicious choices that fuel your body and bring you joy. This approach has helped me so much in finding a healthier relationship with food. I truly believe that empowering yourself in the kitchen is one of the best forms of self-care. So go ahead, experiment, and enjoy every flavorful bite of your homemade spicy chicken wrap!
