“Whispers at the Water’s Edge”
“Whispers at the Water’s Edge”
I stood still by the garden pond,
where silence wrapped the stones like silk.
Three koi appeared, as if on cue—
orange flames in rippling milk.
The first one met my gaze so bold,
his whiskers twitched with ancient lore.
He swam as though he knew my name,
and secrets I had long ignored.
The second danced with quiet grace,
each flick of fin a whispered prayer.
I felt a calm I couldn’t place—
as if the breeze had kissed the air.
The third just glided, wise and slow,
a monk in robes of gold and white.
He didn’t speak, he didn’t need—
his presence turned the day to light.
I left them there but brought them home,
not in a bowl, but in my mind.
Now every time the world grows loud,
I find those koi, and peace, in kind.
