Response to the tattoo post lol..
My fiancé is on the spectrum…I made the post because there are a lot of ppl not diagnosed, misunderstood and honestly dismissed rather then being understood.I know the normal response to things that just aren’t “acceptable” in relationships or even tolerated or overlooked in some.My fiancé is on the spectrum so a lot of what society has in preference or expectations he doesn’t always fall in line with and Me being someone that has had those preferences but have compromised to understand from another angle. In my most humbled way of giving him freedom, not to box him in and because sometimes we too need to unlearn and relearn.Like sometimes he walks off to go rock hounding, hiking and to get him time without communicating.it’s hard because communication is key but it just doesn’t click that I can have several thoughts on what he is doing but I do know him so I don’t sweat it .sometimes he comes in at all types of hours of the day and him not fully grasping that when in a relationship you should respect a reasonable time..but him walking in egg shells to compromise I don’t stress lol see WE as a society literally lay boundaries that make others compromise when that’s not how love goes .
Navigating a relationship with someone on the autism spectrum can present unique challenges, particularly regarding communication and societal expectations. It’s essential to recognize that behaviors which may seem unconventional can stem from neurodivergent traits. For instance, your fiancé’s need for personal space, such as hiking or rock hounding, should be interpreted as a way of processing the world rather than a rejection of your companionship. Moreover, unlearning societal norms that dictate relationship behavior is crucial. Shifting perspectives can promote a healthier environment for both partners, allowing for open dialogue about needs and boundaries. This may involve discussing what respect means in your relationship and how to develop mutual understanding over time. Relationships are not only about meeting established expectations; they can thrive on genuine understanding and support. By embracing differences and fostering communication, couples can create a more profound bond, leading to a respectful and fulfilling partnership where both individuals grow together.
