... Read moreWhen I first stepped into the gym, I felt overwhelmed by all the new terms people were throwing around. Words like AMRAP, Dropset, and 1RM sounded like an entirely different language. For example, AMRAP stands for "as many reps as possible," which means pushing yourself to do as many repetitions as you can within a set. It’s a great way to challenge your endurance. Dropset is another popular technique, where you lift a heavy weight until failure, then instantly reduce the weight and continue without resting. This keeps your muscles under intense stress and helps with muscle growth. One Rep Max, or 1RM, refers to the maximum weight you can lift for a single repetition. Knowing your 1RM helps you tailor your training loads safely and effectively. The Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) is a personal measure of how hard you feel you’re working during an exercise, based on how tired or uncomfortable you feel. Paying attention to RPE helps avoid overtraining and injuries. Learning these terms boosted my confidence, letting me follow workouts correctly and talk with other gym-goers without feeling lost. Keep a notebook or your phone handy to jot down new terms as you hear them — over time, the gym language will become second nature. Remember, every expert was once a beginner feeling confused, so take your time and enjoy the journey!
