Happy Easter 🌸
This Easter, I leaned into comfort. I made a full German meal: Rouladen, Bratkartoffeln, and Käsespätzle — and honestly, it was exactly what my heart needed.
I spent my most formative years in Heidelberg, Germany. It’s the only place that’s ever truly felt like home — cobblestone streets, the Neckar River, old castles tucked into the hills, and that soft golden light at dusk. My family is of German descent, having moved to the U.S. before WWII, but my time in Germany brought all those roots to life.
Lately, I’ve been missing it more than usual — the pace, the feeling, the Gemütlichkeit. Cooking this meal helped me feel a little closer to that version of myself. The one who felt grounded. Who felt home.
If you’ve never tried Rouladen (beef rolls stuffed with mustard, onion, bacon & pickle), crispy pan-fried Bratkartoffeln, or cheesy, gooey Käsespätzle… do yourself a favor and give them a try. And maybe pour a glass of Riesling while you’re at it.
Sometimes the best way to travel back is through the kitchen.
