Just trying to take a bath by myself but I constantly get a tap tap to see if Iv changed my mind about letting him come in the tub with me. #stage5clinger #obsessed #obsessedwithme #chihuahua #gino
You know, when I first got Gino, I thought I wanted a dog who loved me unconditionally. And boy, did I get it! But sometimes, I wonder if I was a little too specific with my wishes, because this little chihuahua is the definition of a 'stage 5 clinger'! It’s not just bath time, although that’s definitely a prime example. I find myself constantly wondering if I'm ever going to get a moment to myself. I swear, it’s like he has a sixth sense for when I’m trying to do something solo. If I go to the bathroom, he’s scratching at the door. If I sit down to read, he’s immediately in my lap, demanding attention. And don't even get me started on trying to work from home – my keyboard often ends up being a warm bed for him! It's both incredibly sweet and incredibly... relentless. I sometimes joke that he thinks he's my shadow, or maybe even my personal security detail, making sure no dangerous bubbles or rogue bath toys get too close. I've learned that this "obsessed" behavior isn't just Gino being a diva; it's often a sign of how deeply dogs bond with their humans. Chihuahuas, in particular, are known for their intense loyalty and often pick one person to be their 'person.' Gino definitely picked me! While it can be a bit much sometimes, it's also truly heartwarming to know you're so loved. It makes me think about that funny meme: 'When I asked for someone to be obsessed with me, I should have been a little bit more specific!' I guess I just didn't anticipate it would be a furry, four-legged 'princess' who believes I can run, but I certainly can't hide from his affection! For anyone else living with a lovable 'clinger,' here are a few things I've found helpful (or at least reassuring!): Designated "Alone Time" for Them: Even clingy dogs need to learn to be content on their own for short periods. A comfy crate, a special bed in another room with a favorite toy, or a puzzle feeder can help them relax independently. Consistent Routine: Dogs thrive on routine. Knowing when meal times, walk times, and play times are helps reduce anxiety that might contribute to clinginess. Mental Stimulation: Sometimes, clinginess stems from boredom. Engaging toys, training sessions, or even just a new scent on a walk can tire them out mentally and make them less demanding. Positive Reinforcement: When they do settle down independently, reward them! A quiet praise or a small treat can go a long way in encouraging that behavior. Embrace the Cuddles (Sometimes!): Let's be honest, as annoying as it can be, those intense cuddles are also part of why we love them. Pick your moments to soak it all in. Living with an 'obsessed' pet is definitely an adventure. While I might dream of a solo bath, Gino's constant presence is a reminder of the incredible bond we share. And honestly, who needs a man to be obsessed with you when you have a chihuahua this devoted? 😉
