- the Bear canyon suspension bridge in draper, ut is such a fun and chill hike to take with your dogs!! 10/10✨

... Read moreHey fellow dog parents! There's nothing quite like hitting the trails with your furry best friends, right? My recent trip to the Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge in Draper, Utah, was a perfect reminder of how much joy a good dog-friendly hike can bring. Seeing my happy boys trot along the dirt path, sniffing every interesting scent, and absolutely loving the scenic views of the valley and distant mountains made my day. If you're searching for dog-friendly trails, whether you're dreaming of Sedona's red rocks or exploring local gems, here are some tips I've picked up to make every adventure a tail-wagging success! First off, preparation is key. Always pack plenty of water – not just for yourself, but for your pups too! I usually bring a collapsible bowl, and on a 2.3-mile hike like Bear Canyon, my dogs often need a drink halfway through. Checking the weather beforehand is also super important; you want to ensure the ground isn't too hot for their paws, especially on sunny days when the sky is clear. Even on a seemingly 'chill' hike, unexpected challenges can pop up. When picking a new trail, I always look for a few things to ensure it's truly dog-friendly. Is there enough shade, or will we be completely exposed? Are there any natural water sources (like streams) where they can safely drink, or do I need to carry all their water? The terrain matters too. While a smooth dirt path like the one at Bear Canyon is ideal, some trails can be rocky or have sharp plants that might hurt their paws. Always remember your leash! Even if your dog has perfect recall, many trails have leash laws, and it's safer for wildlife and other hikers. Plus, it keeps your 'happy boys' close, especially when crossing exciting features like a suspension bridge! One of the most rewarding parts of hiking with my dogs is watching them explore. They notice so much more than we do, and their excitement is contagious. The way my pups reacted to the Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge was priceless – a little hesitant at first, then full of confidence! These shared experiences really strengthen our bond. And let's be honest, those post-hike naps are legendary for everyone involved. Finally, always practice Leave No Trace principles. This means packing out everything you pack in, including those little waste bags. We want to keep these beautiful places, like the stunning mountains and valleys you see from the Bear Canyon trail, pristine for everyone to enjoy. So, whether you're chasing sunsets with a pretty sky or just enjoying a quiet morning walk, remember these tips. Happy trails to you and your amazing canine companions!
