This symbolizes good luck and fortune, and it’s always exciting to receive or give these vibrant red envelopes decorated with gold characters. Another cherished tradition is the reunion dinner on Lunar New Year’s Eve. It’s a time when extended families prepare and share dishes that represent happiness, wealth, and longevity — like fish, dumplings, and sticky rice cakes. The atmosphere is joyous, often accompanied by laughter and storytelling, which strengthens family bonds. Decorations play a big role too. Red lanterns, paper cuttings, and calligraphy featuring auspicious phrases adorn homes and public places, creating inviting and festive surroundings. These elements are believed to ward off bad luck and usher in positivity. In many communities, cultural performances such as lion dances, dragon parades, and fireworks illuminate the celebrations, adding excitement and magic. Experiencing these events live has been unforgettable for me, as they highlight the artistic richness and communal joy of this holiday.
