- Not everything is halal in Malaysia, so look out for the halal signs and always double check with the restaurant
- Malaysia is HOT & HUMID - bring lots of water, a hat, umbrella, fan, short walks can tire you out so don’t be afraid to grab it to places as fares are cheap
- Mode of transport is Grab / Gojek or you hire your own moped / driver
- Always carry cash, some sites are cash to enter and especially in Penang majority of street stalls only accept cash
- Majority of population speaks English well so it is easy to converse
- Be prepared to wait in long lines for hyped up food stalls in Penang, there is no booking, first come first serve
- Everything is quite walkable in Penang and KL but the humidity can hit you hard

In Penang, queuing early in the morning for popular halal street foods was worth it, as tasting dishes like Teochew Chendol and Nasi Kandar introduced me to authentic local flavors. Overall, Malaysia stands out as a welcoming and accessible destination for Muslim travelers. The combination of rich heritage, delicious halal cuisine, affordable transport options, and culturally respectful environment creates a trip that’s both spiritually fulfilling and adventurous. Planning ahead using this itinerary drastically improved my journey’s quality, making every day memorable and hassle-free.
